Welcome

Hello, and welcome to my web site. My name is Daniel Crookston, and I'll be your host for the evening. There are drinks and snacks in the room to the right -- help yourself to whatever you like. Restrooms are down the hall to the left. Please make yourself at home.

The tall dour man in the tuxedo is Raskalnikov, my butler. You may introduce yourself to him if you like. While he has a very good memory, I'm afraid he was born without much of a personality. If you have any problems during your stay, he will handle them on my behalf. Any messages you leave with him will be delivered to me promptly, and in the event of an emergency he has the ability to contact me.

This site is designed to serve several purposes:

Currently, as you will discover very quickly if you click on any links, none of this is actually implemented. While I know that you are fascinated with the intricacies of my personal life and are therefore impatient for these features to arrive, I urge you to remember to continue breathing while I work on them.

Technical Gobbledygook

Currently, this site is being written by hand in straight XHTML using vim on a Windows machine and manually uploaded to the server. Lord willin' and the crick don't rise, this situation will change substantially over the next few weeks. I hope eventually to compose pages using a LaTeX-like language which will be parsed and turned into raw HTML by some Python scripts I'm currently working on. This should allow for a much more flexible and dynamic site, as well as giving Raskalnikov something to do during the day.
